KATHMANDU, July 14: The government has pledged to construct 400 additional public toilets keeping in view the great inconvenience caused to people in various parts of the Kathmandu Valley due to lack of public toilets. According to the Kathmandu Metropolitan Office (KMC), there are only 14 public toilets operating in Kathmandu city.
Talking to Republica, KMC chief Rudra Singh Tamang expressed satisfaction over the budgetary announcements and programs for making Kathmandu a cleaner city.
"Lack of public toilets in the Kathmandu Valley has always caused a great inconvenience to the people. The plan for construction of 400 toilets is certainly great news," said Tamang.
According to Tamang, they will construct 14 new public toilets in the first phase.
"Apart from construction of toilets, this year's budget has announced many other programs to make our city cleaner and greener," said Tamang.
The government has allocated Rs 5.50 billion for the environment sector.
