It has been ages since water scarcity has found its place in the headlines of every newspaper. In Kathmandu, public water taps are common to our visual; however one can hardly find water running through. In the mean time, finding people highly depended upon groundwater to meet can be easily traced down. The only question that lie is- How long is the groundwater going to serve the people?

Chasing the dream

The journey towards success begins with dream. As a child every one of us has a dream for our future and we do our best to achieve it. Likely, Soni Gauccha, a 14 years old girl from the Liwali IDP camp dreams to become a doctor in future. She is a bright student determined towards her dream. Therefore, studying in this age is vital for her.

Awareness Session on Sanitation for better education at Viswa Niketan Higher Secondary School

Sanitation is associated with measuring the necessities for improving and protecting health and well beings of the people. Access to sanitation is considered as one of the basic right of human. However, statistics of Water Aid shows only 27% of the total population in Nepal has access to sanitation. Further, each day 40 children die due to diarrhea and water borne diseases, UNICEF.Such issues have emerged as the result of unhygienic habits, inadequate facilities and lack of awareness.

Foundation Stone laid for Underground Water Storage Tank at Liwali IDP Camp

A year has passed by since Nepal Earthquake 2015 yet the people are vulnerable to water borne diseases due to insufficient and poor quality water supply. People were happy when Marc Sylvestre, Program Manager of International Rainwater Harvesting Alliance (IRHA) officially laid foundation stone for the construction of underground water storage tank at Liwali Internally Displace Persons (IDP) camp. “This ceremony has raised hope of receiving clean water among the people. We all are very thankful towards IRHA and GUTHI for this help,” happily expressed Narayan Prasad Khaitu, President, Liwali IDP Camp.
