Kathmandu Metropolis to launch ‘Recharge Kathmandu’ programme

The Department of Environment Management of Kathmandu Metropolitan City is set to launch ‘Recharge Kathmandu’ programme from government offices and the houses of its employees soon. According to DoEM chief Hari Kumar Shrestha, the programme aims to raise level of groundwater of the capital city. The groundwater level of the city is depleting and needs to be recharged. Groundwater recharge is a process in which water moves downward from earth’s surface to groundwater.

KMC to be ODF even without enough public toilets

KMC, the largest local body of the country ,has done precious little to be declared ODF zone. The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration in the first week of July issued a circular to all local levels, including Kathmandu Metropolitan City, requesting them to expedite works to declare the country an open defecation free country by the end of September.

Nepal set to become open defecation-free country by Dashain

Nepal will soon become a country with 100 per cent individual household toilet coverage. 

Leaving behind its neighbouring country India, and some other 80 countries of the world, Nepal is gearing up to be an open defecation-free country before this Dashain. The Ministry of Water Supply has targeted to achieve the status by the end of September. To declare Nepal as an ODF country, 11 districts and its 63 local levels have accelerated works to achieve the feat, said Devendra Kumar Jha, chief of Environmental and Sanitation Section of Department of Water Supply and Sewerage and Member Secretary of National Sanitation and Hygiene Coordination Committee.
