KATHMANDU, Nov 19: Can you imagine frantically rushing a kilometer just to use a toilet every day? This is the reality that 40-year-old Rita Shahi, a resident of Bhimukteshwor near Bishnumati bridge, Teku, has been facing for the past eight years now. When she feels the nature’s call, getting to the nearest toilet seeks solution to a tough challenge for the day. “Whenever possible, I rush to one of the public toilets nearby. At other times, toilets at the vegetable market in Kalimati serve to my needs of urgency.

सिर ३, २०७५ - सरकारले ‘समृद्ध नेपाल सुखी नेपाली’ को नारा घन्काउँदै आर्थिक समृद्धिको योजना अघि सारिरहँदा मुलुकमा भने अझै शत प्रतिशत जनता शौचालयको सहज पहुँचमा पुग्न सकिरहेका छैनन् । आर्थिक विकास मात्रै नभई सभ्यताको सूचकको रुपमा समेत मानिने शौचालय सबैको घर–घरमा बन्न सकेको छैन । मुश्किलले ६० वटा जिल्ला मात्रै खुल्ला दिसा मुक्त जिल्ला घोषणा भएका छन् । सरकारले सरसफाई र जनतामा चेतना स्तर बढेको बताइरहँदा अझै ८ प्रतिशत बालबालिका झाडापखलाको प्रकोपबाट आक्रान्त छन् ।

काठमाडौँ — बागबजार हुँदै बग्छ टुकुचा । खोलासँगै रहेको पीपलबोट मुन्तिर हेर्दा ठूलो हिमपाइपबाट फोहोर सिधै खोलामा मिसिएको देखिन्छ ।

टुकुचा खोलामा यस्ता हिमपाइप टन्नै छन्, जहाँबाट फोहोर सिधै खोलामा झरिरहेको देख्न सकिन्छ । नजिकैको टुकुचा तरकारी बजारको फोहोर पनि त्यहीँ मिसिन्छ ।

Nepal rests between two gigantic land masses and graces an unpredictable landscape decorated with diverse vegetation and the animals adapted to live within. It only covers three percent of the landmass in South Asia. The largest water reserve in Nepal is merely four percent of the available reserve to the neighboring countries.
